DEVELOPMENT OF AN INTEGRATED PLANT PLATFORM FOR THE TREATMENT OF ORGANIC WASTE AND THE PRODUCTION OF ENERGY FROM BIOGAS

Development project for the construction of a facility to treat the organic fraction of waste within the ECOHIVE complex in the Magħtab area (Malta). The project aims to create a highly efficient integrated platform capable of treating up to 74.300 metric tons per year of organic waste, ensuring operational flexibility in response to seasonal variations.

The plant configuration includes a complete processing line featuring mechanical pretreatment for separating the organic fraction, anaerobic digestion for biogas production, and subsequent energy recovery through cogeneration. The cycle is completed by the aerobic stabilization of the digestate and the production of high-quality compost for agricultural use.

Particular attention is paid to optimizing the layout, with a functional arrangement of buildings and internal flow paths that enables efficient management of waste intake and processing. The project also incorporates advanced systems for treating emissions and process water, ensuring minimal environmental impact and full compatibility with the surrounding environment.

This initiative is a concrete example of how the principles of the circular economy are applied, with a focus on recovering materials and energy from organic waste.
