REVAMPING OF THE MARIANO COMENSE (CO) WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT 

The revamping and expansion project for the Mariano Comense (CO) wastewater treatment plant, commissioned by Como Acqua S.r.l., involves the construction of a new integrated platform dedicated to the joint treatment of sewage sludge, non-hazardous special waste, and organic municipal solid waste (FORSU).

The project aims to recover organic matter from both the water cycle and separate waste collection through anaerobic digestion and subsequent composting. The system consists of two main lines: one for the production of biomethane to be fed into the grid and high-quality compost, and a second for the treatment of sludge and non-hazardous special liquid waste, with the production of biogas for cogeneration.

The plant is designed to operate in synergy with existing infrastructure, ensuring process optimization and the efficient recovery of energy and materials. The project also includes the revamping of the existing sludge line, helping to reduce the production of dewatered sludge and improve overall performance.

Particular attention has been paid to environmental sustainability and plant integration, with the goal of creating a modern and flexible infrastructure capable of tangibly supporting the transition to a circular economy model that serves the local community.
