FORSU ANAEROBIC DIGESTION AND COMPOSTING PLANT FOR THE COGENERATION OF COMPOST AND BIOMETHANE
A project was carried out to develop a new plant system for the recovery of organic waste. The project introduced an anaerobic digestion and composting plant to treat 90,000 metric tons per year of food waste (FORSU) and 25,000 metric tons per year of green waste, along with a section for treating liquid digestate with a capacity of 320 cubic meters per day.
The project established a modern plant configuration focused on biomethane production and material recovery. The organic fraction is pretreated and sent to anaerobic digestion, generating biogas that is subsequently refined in the upgrading section to produce biomethane suitable for injection into the SNAM network. The solid digestate is dehydrated and converted into compost, while the liquid portion is treated in a dedicated section, ensuring management in compliance with environmental requirements.
